This PedsCases Note provides a one-page infographic on Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. This is hyperglycemia due to insulin resistance with relative insulin deficiency and decreased insulin sensitivity. T2DM, unlike T1DM, is not primarily due to autoimmune destruction of pancreatic insulin-producing cells. It was created by Janine Gallego (Medical Student, University of Alberta) with the help of Dr. Mary Jetha (Pediatric Endocrinologist, Stollery Children’s Hospital).
