This podcast covers congenital syphilis, including epidemiology, pathophysiology, impacts on mothers and infants, prenatal screening, bloodwork and follow-up for infants exposed in utero.  This podcast was developed by Stephanie Unrau, a third year medical student at the University of Alberta with Dr. Joan Robinson, a pediatric infectious disease specialist at the Stollery Children's hospital in Edmonton, Alberta.


Neonatal Hypoglycaemia - CPS Podcast

This CPS podcast gives an organized approach to neonatal hypoglycaemia, the most common metabolic problem in neonates and the leading cause of admissions to the NICU. This podcast is based on the 2019 Canadian Paediatric Society Statement, "The screening and management of newborns at risk for low blood glucose." It was created by Carina Lauzon, a fourth-year medical student, with Dr. Michael Narvey, co-author of this CPS statement, and neonatologist Dr. Marc-Antoine Landry.


Approach to Neonatal Hypotonia

This podcast covers neonatal hypotonia, including definition, initial presentation, history, physical exam, common causes, and investigations.  This podcast was created by Dr. Nikytha Antony, a Pediatrics resident at the University of Calgary, in collaboration with Dr. David Callen, a Pediatric Neurologist at the McMaster Children’s Hospital and Dr. Kim Smyth, a Pediatric Neurologist at the University of Calgary. 


Consoling and Bundling Newborns

This video will review techniques on consoling and bundling infants. It was developed by Cary Ma, a medical student at the University of Alberta, in collaboration with Shirley Guan, a medical student from the University of British Columbia, and Dr. Forbes, a pediatric hospitalist, associate professor and pediatric clerkship director at the University of Alberta and Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.


Necrotizing Enterocolitis

This podcast covers necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), including presentation, investigations, management, long term complications and primary prevention. This podcast was developed by Arun Dhir, a fourth year medical student at the University of British Columbia and Dr. Mandeep Mahal of the UBC Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics. 


LGA/IDM

This podcast discusses management of infants that are large for gestational age (LGA) and infants of diabetic mothers (IDM). This episode will discuss screening and treatment for gestational diabetes, labor and delivery complications of LGA infants, and care of LGA infants after birth. It was developed by Manisha Tilak, a medical student at Queen’s University, and Dr. Robert Connelly, a neonatologist and Head of the Department of Pediatrics at Queen’s University.
