This case includes five multi-step clinical cases that review how to interpret the result of an abnormal newborn thyroid screen and repeated thyroid function test.This case was created by Dr. Michael Yafi, an Associate Professor and the Division Director of Pediatric Endocrinology in the Department of Pediatrics at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth).

1. Understand the reason for neonatal thyroid screen
2. Interpret thyroid function test in the newborn period
3. Determine the appropriate approach for newborns with abnormal thyroid screen
4. Understand the urgency to diagnose and test congenital hypothyroidism in the newborn
5. Develop a follow up plan with the appropriate laboratory testing needed to follow up patients with hypothyroidism
6. Generate an analysis of diagnosis and therapy plan when the follow up test is showing unexpected results
