Approach to Pediatric Toxicology and Ingestions

This podcast provides an approach to pediatric intoxication and how to recognize common toxidromes, develop an initial management plan, as well as order appropriate investigations for pediatric ingestion presentations. It was developed by Dr. Breanne Paul, a rural family medicine resident at the University of Alberta, in collaboration with Dr. Andrea Robb, a pediatric emergency medicine physician and Assistant Clinical Professor at the Stollery Children's Hospital and University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada.


Congenital Tracheoesophageal Malformations

This podcast provides an understanding of congenital tracheoesophageal malformations, including the clinical presentation, physical exam, investigations, management, and complications. It was developed by Shawn Dodd, a third-year medical student at the University of Alberta, in collaboration with Dr. Bryan Dicken, a pediatric surgeon at the University of Alberta.


Acute Asthma Exacerbation

This PedsCases Note provides a one-page infographic on managing acute asthma exacerbations. It reviews PRAM scoring and gives an overview of a management algorithm that can easily be used on the wards. This note was created by Katharine Jensen and Alexander Perry, medical students at the University of Alberta, with help from Dr. Melanie Lewis, a pediatrician at the University of Alberta.

Acute Management of Croup

This PedsCases Note provides a one-page infographic on the acute management of croup, based on the CPS Practice Point guideline. It outlines common symptoms to look for in mild, moderate, and severe presentations of croup, and presents a treatment and management flowchart for each presentation. It was created by Sparsh Shah, a 4th year medical student at the University of Toronto.


Community-Acquired Pneumonia (CAP)

This PedsCases Note provides a one-page infographic on Community-Acquired Pneumonia (CAP), including an approach to diagnosis and management in children. It was created by Richard He, a second-year medical student at the University of Alberta, with guidance from Dr. Karen Forbes and Dr. Chris Novak (Stollery Children's Hospital, Edmonton) as well as Dr. Peter Gill and Dr. Michael Prodanuk (The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto).

Neonatal Hypoglycaemia - CPS Podcast

This CPS podcast gives an organized approach to neonatal hypoglycaemia, the most common metabolic problem in neonates and the leading cause of admissions to the NICU. This podcast is based on the 2019 Canadian Paediatric Society Statement, "The screening and management of newborns at risk for low blood glucose." It was created by Carina Lauzon, a fourth-year medical student, with Dr. Michael Narvey, co-author of this CPS statement, and neonatologist Dr. Marc-Antoine Landry.

It was developed by Dr. Nicole Arseneau, a first year pediatrics resident at the Stollery Children’s Hospital and the University of Alberta, in conjunction with Dr. Elissa Abrams, an Allergist and Immunologist at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, and Dr. Edmond Chan, a pediatric allergist at UBC/BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver.
