Pediatric Obesity

This podcast gives students an overview of childhood obesity.  It covers the increasing prevalence of obesity among children, associated health risks and gives an approach of how to talk to children and their families. This podcast was written by Chantelle Champagne and Dr. Mary Jetha. Chantelle is a medical student at the University of Alberta. Dr. Jetha is a Pediatric Endocrinologist at the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta. 


Failure to Thrive

This podcast gives medical students a basic framework about how to understand failure to thrive and helps them develop an approach to the history and physical examination of a child presenting with failure to thrive. A "shotgun" approach to investigations is discouraged. This podcast was written by Dr. Melanie Lewis. Dr. Lewis is a general pediatrician at the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton. She is also the Year 3 Clerkship Director for Pediatrics at the University of Alberta.

This podcast helps students develop an approach to developmental assessment. This podcast was written by Peter Gill and Dr. Debbi Andrews. Peter is a medical student at the University of Alberta. Dr. Andrews is a developmental pediatrician at the University of Alberta Stollery Children’s Hospital and Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.


Adolescent Medicine

This podcast provides an approach to adolescent history taking. Tips for broaching sensitive topics with an adolescent patient are then provided.
