ADHD in Children and Youth: Part 2 - Treatment - CPS Podcast

This podcast is part 2 of a 3-part series on ADHD in children and youth based on the 2018 CPS Statement on ADHD. It will cover the management of ADHD, including non-pharmacologic treatment, when to consider medical intervention, and pharmacologic options. This series was developed by Renée Lurie, a third-year medical student from the University of Ottawa, in collaboration with the authors of the statement: Drs. Stacey Bélanger, Mark Feldman, and Brenda Clark from the Universities of Montreal, Toronto, and Alberta respectively.

This podcast on plant-based diets for children and adolescents will cover the distinction between vegan and plant-based diets, the benefits and suitability of plant-based diets, how to ensure followers of a plant-based diet obtain all necessary nutrients, the warning signs of eating disorders in adolescents, and how parents can support the dietary choices of their children. This podcast was created by Muzammil Ahmad and Cass Warbeck, respectively second- and first-year medical students at the University of Alberta, in collaboration with Dr.


Consumption and Taxation of Sugar-Sweetened Beverages - CPS Podcast

This podcast summarizes the new CPS position statement “A proposal to increase taxes on sugar-sweetened beverages in Canada”. It was developed by Dr. Sandra Botros Gouda, a first-year pediatric resident at the University of Alberta, in collaboration with Dr. Catherine Pound, a pediatrician and researcher at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa.


Infantile Colic

This podcast presents an approach to the diagnosis and management of infantile colic. Listen to this episode to learn about the definition, presentation, differential diagnosis, and management of infantile colic, as well as to learn the contribution of infantile colic to non-accidental injury in infants. This podcast on acute pediatric gastroenteritis will cover the definition of diarrhea and the presentation, common causes, and management of acute gastroenteritis in pediatric patients. It was created by Melissa Chiu, a fourth-year medical student at the University of British Columbia, in collaboration with Dr. Anne Feng, a pediatrician at BC Children’s Hospital.


Caring for children and youth from Canadian military families: Special considerations - CPS Podcast

This CPS podcast covers special considerations when caring for children and youth from Canadian military families.  This includes understanding unique stresses, identifying families at risk of challenges coping during a parent’s deployment, recognizing common issues for children as well as the importance of community resources and advocacy.  It was developed by Dr. Katie Girgulis, a Pediatrics Resident at Dalhousie University and the IWK Health Centre in collaboration with Dr. Anne Rowan-Legg, the main author of the 2017 CPS position statement that will be reviewed in this podcast.


Indigenous Child Health in Canada – Part III: Future
